Lew Belcourt
Father's Day

2 Timothy 2:1-2
You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.

I. GENERATIONAL LEGACY IS AN OLD TESTAMENT PATTERN

a. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob - the Patriarch
Exodus 3:13-15
The God of Old Testimont, is a God of Generations.

b. Cursing to the Fourth Generation
Sometimes God curses not only for the father but until the 4th generations.
Exodus 20:5

c. Blessings to a Thousand Generations
Israel 40 generations.
Deuteronomy 7:9

II. PAUL'S LEGACY

a. Timothy was a 3rd generation Christian
Act 16:1 ; 2 Tim 1:3;5 - note the clear role of women in passing on the faith, from Lois to Eunice to Timothy.

b. Paul wanted Timothy to leave a legacy of faith.
He understand that God's intention to leave a legacy of faith.

2 Tim 2:2 ; Paul > Timothy > Reliable Men > Others - 4 generations who will teach others.

Legacy process:
  • entrust - entrusting something : faith
  • reliable (people) - God is raising up reliable people
  • others - don't forget that we're meant to live intentionally, be intentional about the future.
